Google PageRank Calculation Example 2 -
All Webpages Link Together

This is a very popular and typical internal linking structure of a web site. Almost 85%+ websites on the Internet are using this type of internal linking. All web pages are linking with each others so that any web pages can be accessed from other web pages. This linking is very user friendly with great ease of navigation. However from the PageRank point of view, it is......

Let's get started!

Internal Linking Structures of Web Pages
All web pages are linking with each others so that any web pages can be accessed from other web pages. This is shown as the following diagram:

Internal Linking

We already learned that the average PageRank of all pages in a wesite is one. Therefore all pages before linking have a PageRank value of one. As before Write down the PageRank number of all web pages in a tabular form as shown in the following table.

  1
Home 1.00
Page 1 1.00
Page 2 1.00
Page 3 1.00
Total PR:
4.00
PR Loss:
0

Start PageRank Calculation from Home Page:
Same as the first PageRank calculation example, let's start with the home page. Since this is the first calculation, the PageRank value of all pages will be counted as one.

PageRank Calculator of Homepage

Fill in the PankRank result of Homepage in the table:

  1 2
Home 1.00 1.00
Page 1 1.00
Page 2 1.00
Page 3 1.00
Total PR:
4.00
PR Loss:
0

Calculate New PageRank Numbers of Other Pages:
Obviously, the PageRank results of Page 1, Page 2 and Page 3 are same as the Home Page:

  1 2
Home 1.00 1.00
Page 1 1.00 1.00
Page 2 1.00 1.00
Page 3 1.00 1.00
Total PR:
4.00 4.00
PR Loss:
0 0

Repeat Doing the PageRank Calculations:
You should noticed that the PageRank results are the same no matter how many times you do the calculations!

  1 2 3 4 5 6 7
Home 1.00 1.00 1.00 1.00 1.00 1.00 1.00
Page 1 1.00 1.00 1.00 1.00 1.00 1.00 1.00
Page 2 1.00 1.00 1.00 1.00 1.00 1.00 1.00
Page 3 1.00 1.00 1.00 1.00 1.00 1.00 1.00
Total PR:
4.00 4.00 4.00 4.00 4.00 4.00 4.00
PR Loss:
0 0 0 0 0 0 0

Conclusion of PageRank Calculation:

  • Since all web pages are linked with each others, that means all pages are equally importance. Therefore the PageRank of all web pages are equal with a value of one. This is fair enough!
  • No PageRank Loss.
